Backlink & Keyword Gap
"Build more links" is not a strategy. "These 12 referring domains link to all three competitors and none to you" is — and it comes with names, not adjectives.
Why This Exists
Link profiles get reported by raw count, which tells you almost nothing. Five hundred links from irrelevant low-authority domains are worth less than twenty relevant editorial ones.
Meanwhile the single most actionable output in link building — domains that already link to two or more competitors but not to you — almost never appears in the deck. They're pre-qualified and reachable. They're the list.
This skill is also deliberately conservative on disavow. Most toxic-link panic is unwarranted, Google ignores junk on its own, and disavowing good links does real damage. It will tell you plainly when the answer is don't.
How It Works
Pull client and competitors identically
Referring domains, backlink profile, anchor distribution, organic keywords and gap data — through the same pull, so the comparison is apples-to-apples rather than two different snapshots.
Read the profile's shape
Velocity trend (a rising lost-link line is often the hidden cause of a slow decline), quality by authority tier and topical relevance, and anchor-text risk across branded / naked / generic / exact-match.
Bank the reclamation wins
Lost links worth chasing and unlinked brand mentions — both convert far faster than cold outreach. The skill drafts the outreach for the top targets rather than leaving you a list.
Turn the gap into a roadmap
Referring-domain gap ranked by how many competitors each links to, then keyword gaps clustered into pillars and supporting pieces, sequenced by (traffic potential × relevance) ÷ difficulty.

# 1. Clone the bundle git clone https://github.com/seosdm/seo-skills.git # 2. Connect Ahrefs, or export referring domains + anchors + keyword gap as CSV # 3. Copy skills/backlink-keyword-gap/SKILL.md into a Claude Project: Run backlink-keyword-gap for [domain] vs [competitor1], [competitor2], [competitor3].
No API keys, no setup. The skill is a SKILL.md file plus a worked example — it runs anywhere Claude does.
Sample Output
Verdict: twelve domains link to every competitor and not to you — that's the quarter's outreach list, already qualified. Separately, exact-match anchors at 31% is a footprint worth diluting. Nothing in the profile warrants a disavow file; the junk here is ordinary and Google is already ignoring it.
